Roberto Mancini and Carlos Tevez
Tevez and Mancini Rueters

With the January transfer window close at hand, Merseyside heavy weight Liverpool will make an attempt to land dissatisfied Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez at Anfield as Reds manager Kenny Dalglish will look to bolster his currently faltering attacking line.

Dalglish is looking at the Argentina international as the best option for the team that has struggled in front of opponents' goal this season, and the Reds boss will be making enquiries about the possibilities of loaning the striker before purchasing him in the summer window.

City boss Roberto Mancini will be looking to sell off the striker as soon as possible to avoid any more problems between the player and the club that has been the situation in the past. Although the reports have claimed that both Mancini and Tevez are settling down well together again, more problems could still re-surface following the infamous Bayern Munich-Champions League chapter where Tevez refused to come on as a substitute.

Argentine's agent Kia Joorabchian has also affirmed that the player is now settled in England and will consider offers from other Premier League sides. This could have led to Liverpool's reported growing interest to land the player.

Man City are in the hope of acquiring at least £30 million from the sale of the Argentine targetman, but Liverpool's offer is rumored to be to land the player on loan until the summer before making a bid, provided he succeeds as a Liverpool player in the given time.

Liverpool previously spent £60 million in the striking duo Englishman Andy Carroll and Uruguay international Luis Suarez in January. Even though Suarez has shown promise by netting 11 goals in 25 appearances, his English counterpart Andy Carroll is yet to rise up to the occasion.

Liverpool is currently ranking sixth in the Premier League, according to a Caughtoffside report.

Buenos Aires born Carlos Alberto Tevez joined Boca Juniors at the age of sixteen and made his senior debut against Talleres de Cordoba. He scored 26 times in his 75 appearances for Boca before moving on with Brazilian club Corinthians in 2005 for £13.7 million, where he signed a five-year, £6.85 million contract. During his brief stint in Brazil, he was named the league's best player by the Brazilian Football Confederation, and became the first non-Brazilian player to win the award since 1976.

In 2006, he arrived in England and joined West ham United and debuted for the club as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 home draw with Aston Villa in Sept. 2006. He scored his first West Ham and Premiership goal in March 2007 in a 4-3 home defeat to Tottenham. In April, Tevez was named the club's Hammer of the Year.

After lot of controversies, Tevez decided to move on with Manchester United and debuted in Sept. 2007 when he started the game in place of the injured Wayne Rooney in a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth. He scored his first united goal in a 2-0 home victory against Chelsea. He scored 19 times in 63 starts for United.

Tevez next joined United's local rivals Manchester City in July 2009 after showing his dissatisfaction with United's board and the way he was treated at the club. He made his City debut as a sub in a game against Blackburn Rovers in a 2-0 away win, and scored his first goal for the club in August 2009 against Crystal Palace in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup. City won the game 2-0.

In Dec. 2010, Tevez handed the club a written transfer request, citing family reasons and a breakdown and problems with certain individuals at the club, which the club tagged ludicrous and nonsensical. In Sept. 2011, in a Champions League game against Bayern Munich, Tevez, according to Mancini, refused to come on as a substitute in the second half when City were losing 2-0. He was later suspended by Manchester City for a maximum period of two weeks as the club began an investigation about the matter.

Currently, Tevez is harboring a gardening leave where the Argentinean will be paid in full but will have to stay away from the Manchester City training ground. As the club will not hold his registration until 2014 unless a bidder can be found, he will be unable to play any club football unless Manchester City agree to sell him.

Tevez has scored 43 league goals in 65 games for City so far.
