Santos have confirmed that their highly-rated forward Neymar will remain at the Brazilian club until after the 2014 World Cup, after he agreed to a contract extension with a reported 50% increase in salary.

Neymar was linked to the cream amongst football clubs - Barcelona and Real Madrid - after some scintillating performances for Santos and Brazil. Premier League giants also attempted to lure him to England, during the summer transfer window, but the 19-year-old stayed back.

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has now confirmed that the player had agreed an extension to his current contract, at a press conference on Wednesday.

It's great news for Santos and the player, and it will leave the Santos fans overjoyed, agent Wagner Ribeiro told Globoesporte.

Reportedly, Neymar agreed to the contract extension after being given a 50% increase in his salary - the level he expected to earn had he moved to a top European club.
