The Asus Transformer Prime, considered the most-awaited Android tablet offering, has apparently posted a new record for Honeycomb-powered tablets.

According to reports it is the most pre-ordered tablet that utilizes the Honeycomb Android OS. Figures released by Dixons Retail show that demand for the multi-part device soared in the run-up to Christmas.

Asus Transformer Prime is the first device to utilize the Tegra 3 processor. It runs Android v3.2 (Honeycomb) and comes with a 10.1-inch LED backlit screen with Super IPS+ technology and a keyboard dock, which features a track pad, USB 2.0 port and SD card slot. The version of the Android OS used on the tablet, Honeycomb, is designed specifically for tablets while the recently released Ice Cream Sandwich Android can be used on either smartphones or tablet devices.

According to a spokesperson of Asus in the US, the initial batch of the much-awaited tablet is on its way to the U.S. The device will be delivered to the retail partners of the company and the inventory will increase in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Asus has started selling Eee Pad Transformer Prime in China exclusively at Jingdong Mall. Company seems to be selling only 32GB version right now.

Also it is reported that the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, which is the predecessor of the Transformer Prime, has received a software update. It consists of bug fixes and various performance enhancements. After you apply it, your tablet will be on software version 8.6.5.21 and Android version 3.2.1.
