The Design Museum in London has released its list of nominees, and it showcases what it calls the most innovative and progressive designs from around the world. The nominees span seven categories: Architecture, digital, fashion, furniture, graphics, transport and product.
Category award winners and the overall winner of the Design of the Year Award 2012 will be announced at an event in April.
Middleton married Prince William last April. Her wedding dress was one of the most photographed for the year.
According to CBS News, the bodice, skirt and underskit of Middleton's wedding dress were made of French Chantilly lace and English Cluny lace throughout. Additionally, the dress is made of ivory and white satin gazar and it was designed to imitate and opening flower.
But that is not all. The lace applique for the bodice and skirt were said to be handmade by the Royal School of Needlework. CBS News also reported that individual flowers were hand-cut from lace and put onto ivory silk tulle in order to make the dress' design.
The design said to consist of rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.
"Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing," the palace said at the time, as reported by CBS. "Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen's work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress."
