Taco Bell introduced an all-new breakfast menu with Mexican-style offerings in late January. Currently offered in ten western states from California to Colorado, the new Taco Bell FirstMeal breakfast menu offers eleven unique items, but are the breakfast options better than McDonald's, Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks and other fast food chains?

The full Taco Bell FirstMeal menu includes: Sausage or Bacon and Egg Burrito, Hash Browns (99 cents), Seattle's Best Coffee ($1.49), Cinnabon Delights ($1.49), Tropicana Orange Juice ($1.49), Johnsonville Sausage and Egg Wrap ($1.79), Seattle's Best Coffee Premium Vanilla or Mocha Iced Coffee ($1.99), Steak and Egg Burrito ($1.99), and Grande Skillet Burrito ($2.79).

Taco Bell has teamed up with a number of breakfast brands including Johnsonville, Cinnabon, Tropicana and Seattle's Best Coffee for the FirstMeal menu. There will also be three breakfast combos offered, all for $3.99, which include a drink and hash browns.

While Taco Bell is serving unique Mexican-style breakfast foods, how does the FirstMeal menu compare to McDonalds, Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Burger King and others?

The McDonald's breakfast menu offers a range of sandwiches from the McMuffin to the McGriddles. McDonald's also offers hotcakes, fruit and maple oatmeal, fruit and yogurt parfait, bagels, biscuits and burritos. The MCDonald's menu offers a few healthy alternatives compared to Taco Bell, but the menus are similar in that both offer sausage burritos and sandwiches heavy on cheese, egg and meat.

The popular coffee chain Starbucks also offers an array of breakfast options. The breakfast menu includes more artisan alternatives such as the bacon and gouda sandwich and the spinach and feta wrap. Unlike McDonalds and Taco Bell, the breakfast offerings at Starbucks are small and limited. Overall, Starbucks offers fewer, more expensive options, but they are significantly healthier.

Dunkin' Donuts also offers an extensive breakfast menu. In addition to donuts, bagels, muffins and other baked goods, the Dunkin' Donuts breakfast menu includes an array of bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. Unlike other fast food restaurants, Dunkin' Donuts has the most customizable options for breakfast offerings.

Fast food giant Burger King offers similar breakfast options to McDonald's. The menu includes a number of breakfast sandwiches as well as French toast sticks, blueberry biscuits with icing, pancakes, sausages and the signature BK Breakfast Bowl. While most prefer either McDonald's or Burger King, the two menus are indistinguishable.

Taco Bell locations on the East coast will begin carrying breakfast delicacies in 2013. In 2012, Taco Bell will also begin sampling FirstMeal items during the late-night hours alongside FourthMeal offerings. Participating restaurants open already in western states will be open at 8 or 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. to serve breakfast.
