As the start of the La Liga season quickly approaches, Real Madrid continue to scramble to bolster their attack.

Over the summer, several prominent players have been linked to Jose Mourinho's squad. The defending champions can expect Barcelona to rebound from their second-place finish in 2011-2012, and Mourinho desperately wants to win another Champions League title.

One player, in particular, has been entrenched in headlines.

The status of Croatian playmaker Luka Modric remains uncertain as Tottenham insist on a £40 million transfer fee. Real Madrid made a final "take it or leave it offer" of £30 million, according to ESPN. The 26-year-old doesn't appear to be a serious target of any other club, so it seems likely that he will eventually end up at Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos also remain heavily linked to Neymar. The 20-year-old Brazilian continues to star for Santos, but his move to Europe is expected with Chelsea and Barcelona showing strong interest. It's unclear if Neymar wil make a move this summer or wait until 2013.

Neymar has showcased his skills to a global audience with two goals and one assist in his last three games of the London Games. Neymar leads Brazil against Mexico at Wembley Stadium on Aug. 11. and is expected to figure prominently with Brazil when they prepare for the 2014 World Cup.

Real Madrid also appear to be targeting Manchester United's Nani. Los Blancos made an offer of £19.7 million for the 25-year-old star, reported Talk Sport.

Contract negotiations between Manchester United and Portuguese winger have reportedly stalled. According to Daily Mail, Nani is seeking a salary of £120,000 a week.

While some players appear to be headed to Santiago Bernabeu, one notable name seems likely to leave. Nuri Sahin is expected to leave La Liga, and may move to London on a season-long loan to Arsenal, according to The Guardian.

Arsenal team manager Arsene Wenger said he will try to add Sahin if Alex Song leaves Emirates, but that doesn't seem likely since no club has made a formal offer.

Mourinho said he would not stand in Sahin's way if he chose to leave Madrid for Arsenal. Metro reported that Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United have interest in the 23-year-old midfielder.
