“The Bachelorette” Tuesday delivered quite possibly the most brutal two-on-one date in the history of the ABC franchise. Although those dates have always been awkward and tense — who can forget Chris Soules’ double breakup with Ashley I. and Kelsey? — nothing can compare to the shocking ending for Chad and Alex.

Since the season started, Chad and Alex have butted heads. Their feud was put on the back burner in episode 3 when Evan decided to take one for the team and poke the angry “Chad Bear.” However, by the end of episode 4 it was revealed that Chad and Alex would be facing off in the ultimate showdown — JoJo’s first two-on-one date.

Even before the date, things became awkward when Chad overheard the other guys talking about him getting sent home. He got so heated that he even threatened to find Jordan after filming for “The Bachelorette” ended. Alex used that threat as a way to show JoJo the side of Chad she hasn’t seen. And of course, JoJo wasn’t happy to learn about the threats of violence.

JoJo had already given Chad a second chance after his outburst over Evan receiving the group date rose the week before. And although JoJo felt a connection with the bachelor, and feared he was struggling after the death of his mom six months prior, it was not enough to keep Chad in the game.

“Chad, I don’t think that you’re the person you say you are,” JoJo told him. “I don’t think that the way that you behave and resort to violence is something that is acceptable. I don’t want somebody that threatens other people, who can’t get along with other people and that thinks that physical violence is a way to solve things. So, with that said, Alex, will you accept this rose?”

JoJo ended things with Chad right then and there. BUT CHAD DIDN’T GO HOME! In the ultimate “Bachelorette” twist, Chad returned to the house to face the other men one last time. A preview for the next episode shows JoJo breaking down in tears while the other guys appear shocked.

Is Chad returning for revenge? Is he finally ready to make peace? Or maybe he simply left behind his favorite protein shake. Fans of “The Bachelorette” have to wait two weeks, until Monday, June 20, to find out what happens next.
