Carlton Cuse is set to make a cameo appearance in an upcoming Season 5 episode of “Bates Motel.”

Cuse, who serves as an executive producer on the A&E series, will take on the role of the sunglasses-wearing highway patrol officer who follows Marion Crane (Rihanna) during her escape in Season 5, episode 5, which series star Nestor Carbonell directed. According to Variety, the cop was portrayed by Mort Mills in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film “Psycho,” which inspired the TV series.

Debra Birnmaum, executive editor for TV for Variety, shared the news on Twitter. In her post, she describes Cuse’s character as a “shady” cop, to which Cuse reacted with a tweet that reads: “Well, yes, you’ll just have to wait and see how shady ‘Cop’ is.”

Cuse’s “Bates Motel” cameo was an idea of fellow executive producer Kerry Ehrin, who shared that they’ve always joked about him doing a cameo on the show. “I find Carlton super amusing. He’s larger than life in a great way,” Ehrin said. They finally settled on the idea of him playing the “super-stern” cop, whose eyes remain hidden behind dark Ray-Bans. “That’s perfect for Carlton. He was a good sport about it,” the exec added.

Although it’s only a cameo role, Freddie Highmore told Variety that Cuse played the part perfectly. “He’s the perfect cop, because he’s so right for it in so many ways,” said Highmore, who portrays Norman Bates on the series. “He’s got that gravitas, but at that same time, there’s that underlying deadpan humor coupled with his voice that makes it a much more interesting scene than just another cop. He brings the cop to life.”

Apparently, some viewers are also interested in seeing Ehrin appear on the show. But when a fan asked whether or not Ehrin also has a cameo, the exec producer replied: “I only want to go out for parts Emma Stone is being offered.”

“Bates Motel” Season 5, episode 5, titled “Dreams Die First,” airs on Monday, March 20 at 10 p.m. EST on A&E.
