Did you buy some ham recently at a Sam’s Club and Costco store? You might want to make sure it's safe to eat before you make a sandwich. 

502 Boundary Blvd. Inc., formerly known as Fletcher’s Fine Foods Ltd. is recalling almost 8,700 pounds of its ham products, according to an announcement Wednesday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. It is believed that the Black Forest Ham product may contain additional materials, specifically rubber.

The contamination was initially discovered when a retail location received a complaint from a customer concerning the boneless, ready-to-eat ham product. The customer complained that there were several pieces of rubber material in the ham. The current recall affects the “Fletcher’s Fine Foods CLASSICS Black Forest Brand Ham with Natural Juices.”

The ham comes in a vacuum sealed package weighing 6.02 pounds and reads “Product of Canada” and “Est. #337” on the label. The contaminated products were shipped to Sam’s Club and Costco stores as well as distribution centers in Washington, Alaska and Utah. The packaging code is 16 OC 2016.

The Class II Recall has been determined to have low health risks. The USDA identifies a Class II recall as “A health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.”

Although there have been no complaints of injury or hospitalization upon the discovery, customers who feel ill are urged to seek medical help. Those in possession of the contaminated ham are encouraged to throw it away or return it to the place of initial purchase.
