Brad Pitt surely knows his priorities —family. People may have not seen it coming but recently, the “Ad Astra” actor missed one of the most prestigious annual award shows for the opportunity to, reportedly, repair his relationship with his estranged son, Maddox.

The British Academy Film Awards, an annual event presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, celebrates its 73rd year. The 202 BAFTAs, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, on Monday, honored the best foreign and national films of 2019.

Pitt, 56, was nominated for the category of Best Supporting Actor for the movie “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.”

Previous reports revealed that Pitt and his son with Angelina Jolie, Maddox, had not been in good terms. Whether the Universe conspired to make things happen or a possible divine intervention, Pitt finally got his much awaited chance to spend time with his estranged son; hence, at the last minute, the actor made a decision to ditch BAFTA and according to his representatives, it was due to a “family obligation,” Page Six reported.

The source cited, who happens to be a friend of Pitt, said that the actor’s 18-year-old son with Jolie gave him the opportunity to talk, The Sun revealed. Without any hesitation, the American actor immediately grabbed the opportunity, even if it means pulling out from the BAFTA event.

Maddox is currently studying at Yonsei University in South Korea but, according to the reported source, Pitt found out that his son would be around. With a possible chance to have a conversation with him, the actor canceled his trip to the U.K.

Pitt won the Best Supporting Actor and since he wasn’t there, his “Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood” co-star, Margot Robbie, received the award on his behalf.

It was in 2016 when Jolie and Pitt separated and one can only imagine how difficult it was and still is for the entire family to experience this unfortunate circumstance. There had been previous reports Pitt, allegedly, had an altercation with Maddox in a private plane which impelled Jolie to report the incident to the FBI and file a divorce against Pitt days thereafter.

Ever since the divorce proceedings commenced, Pitt was rarely caught on camera with his kids. He was not even there when Jolie dropped Maddox off at Yonsei; nevertheless, the actor reportedly tried so hard to repair his relationship with his eldest son.

He’s not going to just let this pass. Apparently, the chance to talk with Maddox and mend what has been broken is way more important than any awards. Family comes first, indeed.
