Social media sites seem to know everything about their users. They even know how to manipulate our emotions. But how much do we know about the demographics of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users?
Each social media network has a fairly distinct user group: Facebook's audience is getting older, whereas more than 90 percent of Instagram users are under the age of 35. The graphic below, which combines data from Pew Research Center and industry surveys, found younger users were more likely to use multiple platforms while older consumers relied on a single account. Twitter data reveals that 50 percent of global Twitter users are in their 20s, and more than a quarter of the Internet's African-American population tweets.
