'Call of Duty: WWII.' Activision

Things have not been easy for Call of Duty: WWII, the newest game in the exceedingly popular and long-lasting first-person shooter franchise. Released at the beginning of November, the game attempts to bring Call of Duty back to its humble Normandy-Beach-storming roots after the sci-fi shenanigans of the last several entries. However, it has faced online connectivity issues and slightly more tepid than usual reviews.

Those who are enjoying the game or are still on the fence about it should take solace in the fact that some classic Call of Duty content is apparently coming to the game soon. According to Eurogamer, a YouTube video showing off unannounced upcoming modes and weapons was posted and promptly taken down by user Mr JaRni. A data-miner and modder, JaRni said the video would not be reuploaded:

Luckily, the video can still be seen over at Multiplayer First. JaRni hacked into the game’s files to find unused content that, presumably, will be added to the game either as free or paid DLC in the near future. This already happened to the game prior to its release. The three-minute video showcases these new guns and modes in matches against bots.

First up is Gun Game, a mode that was made famous by Counter-Strike back in the day before coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops. The popular mode is a free-for-all deathmatch where getting a kill immediately switches you to a new weapon. That means you will need to be good with pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles and more to come out victorious in Gun Game. The winner is whoever gets a kill with every weapon on the list.

Also found in the leaks are returning modes Infected and Control. Infected pits a small number of “survivors” against a larger number of less powerful “infected” players in a battle to see which side lasts the longest. Control is a classic shooter game variant about controlling more points on the map than the other team until you have gained enough points to win. All three of these modes are currently unplayable in the game itself, but are apparently hidden deep in its files.

Also of note are a smattering of new weapons and new Zombies mode content. At this point, it is unclear whether this content will come to the game for free or if it will be paid DLC within the season pass. It is reasonable to assume it will not be long before we hear more about this if these weapons and modes are already in the game’s files.
