Katie Brown, 16, was the luckiest girl on the planet on Sunday after Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton scored his third touchdown of the game and gave her the winning ball.

The thing is, the third touchdown was a record-breaking one, giving Newton 13 for the season, which is the most ever by an NFL quarterback. That touchdown caused Newton to break Steve Grogan's 35-year-old record, The Associated Press reported.

The Carolina Panthers equipment staff knew that the Pro Football Hall of Fame may want the piece of memorabilia to celebrate the milestone. It was then up to assistant equipment manager Don Toner to retrieve the ball that's destined to be housed in Canton, Ohio.

The funny thing is when Cam scored and started running over there we're all yelling, 'Oh no, don't,' Toner told The AP. It was like watching it happen in slow motion. It was painful.

Toner said he nicely asked Brown to exchange the winning ball because we kind of need it.

And she was real sweet about it, he told The AP. She didn't hesitate. She was so excited she was trembling. She was just giddy about what had just happened.

Brown, who spent the night designing a T-shirt that read Katie and Cam on the front and Mrs. Newton on the back, told The AP that when her hero handed her the ball It was the most amazing moment.

The Florida teen first became a fan of Newton when he played at Auburn. She didn't mind the exchange.

I honestly believe Cam deserves to have that ball because it was his record and his achievement. she said. He should have it.
