Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in “Captain America: Civil War,” recently shared an image on Instagram. In the close-up shot, he can be seen wearing a moustache and a beard and he appears to have long hair. He captioned it “#marvel #civilwar #pickyourside."

In the comics, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created Barnes as the sidekick character. He made his first appearance as Barnes in “Captain America Comics” No 1. Later he was brought back from the dead as Winter Soldier. His alter ego is James Buchanan Barnes, who is Captain America’s (Chris Evans) best friend and an expert in hand-to-hand combat. As Winter Soldier, he acquires superhuman strength and turns into an assassin and a spy.

Stan has played the character Barnes in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” and the Winter Soldier in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” He will reprise his role in “Captain America: Civil War;” however, it is not known whether he will play Barnes or Winter Soldier or someone else, as hinted by co-director Joe Russo in his interview with Collider.

“What’s left to explore, obviously, is the personality of the character, much the way that [Ed] Brubaker’s run did after Winter Soldier regained a semblance of his past. Philosophical questions that we would want to deal with in Cap 3 would be, you know, is he redeemable? Where does he live now? Does he ever regain his memories? If he doesn’t regain his memories, can you call him Bucky Barnes, or is he somebody new? So it’s a really fascinating character to play with. Very rich,” said Russo.

Joe and Anthony Russo are directing “Captain America: Civil War” from the screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely based on the comic book “Captain America” by Simon and Kirby. Kevin Feige is producing and other cast members include Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Rudd.

It opens May 6, 2016, in 3D and IMAX.
