Alice Vaughn’s (Mireille Enos) life is about to take a shocking turn.

In “The Catch” Season 2, episode 5, she is set to find out whether or not her fiancé, Ben (Peter Krause), is the father of Margot’s (Sonya Walger) teenage daughter. In episode 4, the daughter resurfaced, and it’s obvious that she doesn’t have a good relationship with her mom. Margot is not very happy with her return either, so in episode 5, she would get her DNA tested with the help of Alice herself.

The teaser released by ABC for Thursday night’s episode shows Alice worrying about the results of the DNA test. When Sophie (Elvy Yost) asked her what she would do if Ben is indeed Margot’s daughter’s father, Alice could not give her any answer.

Elsewhere, Margot just discovered the identity of the woman who has been trying to kill her, and it’s none other than her own daughter. In “The Bad Girl,” Margot’s daughter's real motives will be revealed, and this will provide viewers with an insight into Margot’s past.

This new storytelling approach for “The Catch” was explained by executive producer Allan Heinberg at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. While speaking with TV Line, Heinberg said that Season 2 will have a lighter and sillier theme compared to Season 1. As such, the weekly cases featured in the series have also changed drastically. In Season 2, the cases reveal more information about each of the characters and their backstories.

“I made a promise this year that would just get rid of all that stuff in Season 2 and only have Alice cases that end up exploring their lives, their backstories and their relationships so there are no wasted moments on the show,” he said.

“The Catch” Season 2, episode 5 will air on ABC on April 6 at 10 p.m. EST.
