London giants Chelsea have reportedly targeted Brazilian club Santos’ star striker Neymar for a January transfer when the window opens next month. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has placed the player on top of his Christmas shopping list.

The Blues, however, will know that the player will not come cheaply and the Chelsea board will have to shell out a hefty sum of money to lure away the 19-year-old to Stamford Bridge. Since it is believed that Spaniard Fernando Torres, who was acquired for a sum of around £50 million, is exit-bound, the Blues will want to fill up the gap with the starlet.

Neymar, who was previously linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona in big money deals, is one of the hottest prospects in football at the moment. He has scored nine times in just 15 outings for Brazil and only recently declined a move to Santiago Bernabeu with Real Madrid.

The interested clubs may have to shell out an amount of £45 million if they are serious about acquiring the player, according to a Sunday Mirror report.
