China will keep prices stable this year and prevent big ups and downs in economic growth, the Communist Party's top leadership said on Monday, according to Xinhua news agency.

At a planning meeting chaired by President Hu Jintao, the Politburo also reiterated that the government would continue to implement a prudent monetary policy and proactive fiscal policy, code for a blend of gradual monetary tightening but ample fiscal spending.
