Chris Brown caused an uproar on Thursday after photos of his Halloween costume began making the rounds on social media. Brown, who has a public history of violence, attended a party at Rhianna’s dressed as an Arab terrorist.

Photos of Brown and his entourage emerged on Thursday morning, showing the men wearing robes, bandoliers, turbans and fake beards while brandishing fake AK-47 riles. Reportedly, Brown and his friends claimed that they were members of both al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Brown posted many of the pictures himself on his own personal Instagram account, though partygoers captured several more photos of Brown and his entourage dressed as terrorists.

When the photos became a hit online, they sparked an outrage against Brown’s costume, with many claiming that Brown’s terrorist garb was highly offensive to both Muslims and American victims of terrorism.

Buzzfeed referred to the costume as “a pretty awful idea any way you look at it.”

On Twitter, critics of Brown called the singer “the worst person in the world” and “the least self-aware celebrity on earth.

For many, Brown’s terrorist costume is especially offensive considering the man’s personal history with violence and anger management issues. In 2009, Brown was arrested on domestic violence charges for brutally assaulting his then-girlfriend Rhianna.

In June of this year, Brown was again arrested for allegedly starting a brawl with Drake and his entourage in a SoHo nightclub. The two hip-hop stars reportedly threw bottles at each other across the club, leaving eight injured.

Perez Hilton took issue with Brown’s history of violence, calling the costume “horrifically offensive” and referred to “his very long and extensive history with violence and rage-fueled outbursts that have nearly cost him his career.”

However, while many were offended by Brown’s terrorist costume, he had at least one die-hard supporter: his mother.

Joyce Hawkins, Brown’s mother and self-declared leader of Brown’s fans known as “Team Breezy,” tweeted that “HALLOWEEN IS FOR FUN NOTHING MORE THAN JUST FUN. GET A LIFE PLEASE”

Perez Hilton fired back at Hawkins, writing that “We just don't see anything ‘fun’ - nor funny - about his continued behavior. If anything, it's just very, very sad.”
