Spurs have been very active in the transfer market and might be making an even bolder move by adding Fulham attacking midfielder Clint Dempsey.

Dempsey has basically been on strike at Fulham, and has firmly stated his interest in playing in European club tournaments. The 29-year-old has been linked to a shock last-minute move to White Hart Lane, according to FOX Soccer.

Liverpool may still be the frontrunners to land Dempsey. The Reds had been linked to the American for several weeks, but the two clubs have failed to agree up on a fee.

The possible move to Tottenham would allow Dempsey to stay in London, and compete in Europa League. Dempsey could perhaps play in the 2013-2014 Champions League should Spurs qualify with a top-four finish, as well. Should he move to White Hart Lane he would also be joined by fellow American Brad Friedel.

Spurs have already been active in the transfer market on Friday. Tottenham have moved Rafael van der Vaart to Hamburg, and reports have Spurs adding goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

There have also been reports that attacking midfielder Joao Moutinho has been added for a £22 million fee. However, BBC has confirmed that no deal is in place just yet.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas had previously dismissed the notion that Moutinho would join the club. It may be a stretch that Spurs would add both Dempsey and Moutinho in the same day. It's possible that Tottenham are in a situation of adding either midfielder.

Both players are rather versatile. Dempsey has been used as forward with the U.S. national team, while Moutinho is capable of playing multiple roles in the midfield.
