It wouldn’t be “Dancing with the Stars” without a romance rumor, now would it? Val Chmerkovskiy, who was previously speculated to be dating his former “DWTS” partner Janel Parrish, is now being romantically linked to Rumer Willis, his current partner on Season 20 on the hit ABC series. And can you blame fans for shipping the foxtroting twosome? We can’t -- especially after the explosive chemistry they exhibited during the show’s 2015 premiere episode. The couple earned the highest score of the night, receiving a 32 out of 40 for their romantic number.

But unfortunately for fans, the dancing duo are merely friends -- or at least, that’s what they told E! News during an interview when asked about their love lives. “Somebody asked me that today. I find that such a weird question to ask. It’s so personal,” Val deflected the inquiry after admitting he and Rumer, 26, are both single.

Although the 28-year-old professional dancer doesn’t like discussing his own private life, he showed no reluctance to answering questions regarding the “love affairs” of other contestants on the show. Inspired by the relationship between Season 20 participants Kym John and “Shark Tank” star Robert Herjavec, which was recently made official, Val and Rumer explained why romances between contestants on "DWTS" are so common.

"It's like being at summer camp," Rumer told E! News. “You’re at summer camp and there’s this group of people that you’re with all the time and you have no life outside of there, so you’re like, ‘Oh, hey. Yeah, this is a great idea.'"

Val agreed with his partner, adding that while on the show your world shrinks to “DWTS” and the people involved. “Obviously your relationship with your partner and the camaraderie that you’ve built is closer than anybody on the show,” he stated, giving us a flashback to when Val and Janel were suspected of going steady during Season 19.

While Val has never admitted to having a relationship with any of the contestants during his stint on the ABC series, he has stated that it’s possible to have a love affair, “if you do it the right way.” “If your partner is committed, if you’re committed and you find yourself on the same kind of level of dedication and ambition to do well then you’re bound to build some sort of relationship,” he revealed. Could he be talking from experience?

“Dancing with the Stars” will air episode 2 of Season 20 on Monday, March 23, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
