In response to the death of popular “Rude Mom” blogger Cyndee Hill Wells, who suffered from a bone disorder and multiple sclerosis and had a mild heart attack late last year, an online fundraiser to help support Wells’ autistic son, Denver, is nearing its goal of $1,000.

The Go Fund Me effort was created by Teri Hardy, who announced Wells’ death on the “Cyndee Wells Fund” website.

“Today the blogging community was saddened by the news of fellow blogger Cyndee Well's [sic] passing. Many know that she has in a great deal of pain and now is resting peacefully,” Hardy wrote in creating the page on Thursday. She did not state the cause of Wells’ death, although Wells, a native of South Carolina who lived in Mount Airy, North Carolina, mentions on her website that she has Osteogenesis imperfect – a disorder that makes bones brittle and easy to fracture --, and multiple sclerosis. She also tweeted in October that she suffered a minor heart attack.

“She was a loyal friend to many and considered our community her family. Cyndee will be missed beyond words,” Hardy said. “Cyndee leaves behind a son named Denver. This fund is to assist in the care of this young man during this unbelievable hard time. All funds {up to $1,000} will be matched by Mom Powered Media. As many of you know, Cyndee was a team leader for the MPM network and worked so hard to help other bloggers and friends succeed.”

As of Friday afternoon, the fund raised $827 and is nearing its $1,000 goal. Hardy said she may also put together an auction to raise additional funds that will go towards raising Denver.

The “Rude Mom” blog, which is geared towards mothers and offers advice on everything from homeschooling to combatting child obesity and recipes to weight loss, averages more than 8,900 visitors a day as of December 2013, according to the site’s media kit. Wells also has more than 19,000 Twitter followers and her Facebook page has more than 23,000 likes. The blog also ran popular giveaway contests for everything from children’s tablets to handbags.

Wells explained how she earned the moniker “Rude Mom.”

“I am not really rude, but I am really, really Blunt [sic],” she wrote. “If you don’t want the truth (which can hurt) don’t ask me because that is what you will get. I have always told my kids and everyone else that I wasn’t put here to sugar-coat everything for them. But, that could also be some of the Redneck [sic] South Carolina girl in me talking too.”

Wells started the “Rude Mom” blog in October 2011, when Denver was diagnosed with autism. She was married to Jack, whom she called “Not-So-Rude Dad.”

“Jack has earned the name ‘Not-So-Rude-Dad’ but, it truly fits him,” she wrote. “He is a true gentleman…opens doors, cooks, cleans, and even does clothes.”
