Derek Jeter, the beloved Yankees shortstop playing in New York on Saturday, hit a homerun to reach 3,000 career hits.

He becomes the 28th player in Major League baseball history to do so. He is also the first player in Yankees history to reach the number.

The score came off a pitch by David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The hometown crowd rose to their feet and his teammates met him at home plate to congratulate him.

He had come into the game just two hits short of the mark. He singled earlier in the game.
