Devious Maids season 2 spoilers
What will happen in episode 9 of "Devious Maids"? Lifetime/Devious Maids

Can you believe there’s only three episode left of “Devious Maids” Season 2? It feels like just yesterday we were preparing ourselves for a nail-biting premiere and the drama has only escalated throughout the season. But hey, what would a soap opera be without a little thrills and chills?

And that’s exactly what you should expect when episode 9, “The Visit,” airs on Sunday at 10 p.m. EDT. According to the episode synopsis, “Reggie will move forward with his plans” of getting to the bottom of Rosie’s history with Spence, “Genevieve will be surprised by her estranged mother’s arrival, Marisol will deal with a new hire at the Deering mansion and Ty’s obsession with Carmen will take a violent turn.”

Well, looks like Spence drew the small straw for episode 9. We wouldn’t be surprised if he spent the upcoming episode sleeping with one eye open. And he totally should because “The Visit” is based on a pretty eerie play written by Swiss dramatist Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

Cherry has opted to name every episode of Season 2 after an influential play. And this week happens to be even more jaw dropping than the last.

“The Visit” tells the story of an enormously wealthy woman’s return to her hometown of Güllen (which literally means "to manure"). Upon her arrival, the famed billionaire, Claire Zachanassian, offers the town a bargain -- and a dreadful one at that. She promises the townspeople, who are under a fretful amount of debt, that she’ll revitalize the town under one condition: They kill the man who jilted her. That man just so happens to be Alfred Ill, the owner of the failing town’s general store and Claire’s former love. Scandalous!

The town seems torn with the decision but ultimately decides against killing Alfred. However, Claire slyly says she’ll wait for the townsfolk to change their minds and that comment eats away at Alfred, turning him into paranoid nut job.

Eventually Alfred notices the town-folk sporting new wardrobes, driving news cars and living flashier lifestyles thanks to Claire -- even his own family is reaping the benefits of Alfred’s scorned lover’s vengeance. That’s when Alfred opts to have the town judge and kill him rather than running away.

A fellow townsman ends up murdering Alfred during his hearing, which is when Claire hands over a check to the mayor. She takes Alfred’s dead body and puts it in the casket she came to Güllen with, leaving the town for good.

Who do you think Dürrenmatt’s play is referring to in “Devious Maids”? It’s hard to say considering everyone has the potential of being a Claire of an Alfred.
