It has long been rumored that Apple will ditch the Space Gray color option in favor of a darker shade for its upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Ahead of the smartphones’ public reveal, the modified color variant has made an appearance in a photo leaked by a casemaker.

The leaked photo comes from casemaker MobileFun who even claimed that the Space Gray color option may have been replaced with a blue one. However, Apple Insider strongly suggested that though the snap may show a blue iPhone 7, the shade of the new Space Gray variant may only look blue in the photo due to the lighting conditions at the time the picture was taken.

GSM Arena also picked up the same leaked photo and reported that it does portray a more tamed blue tint, but the tech site was quick to counter that using blue paint for the new iPhones is unlikely since it is prone to chipping.

Apple Insider also reiterated that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus would most likely sport a darker shade of the Space Gray variant and even went as far as labeling this new tint as “Space Black.” Should this new color option become official, then Apple fans could expect to see five different color variants on Wednesday — Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, the rumored Piano Black and the modified Space Gray.

The introduction of new a new color lineup for the iPhones has proven to be beneficial to the Cupertino giant. As a matter of fact, when the company launched the Rose Gold variant, around 40 percent of preorders requested for the relatively new color option at launch, as per Apple Insider.

The news about the newly leaked iPhone 7 photo comes amid the growing number of rumors and leaks hinting at various minor upgrades for the new iPhones that would set them apart from last year’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

It also comes just a day prior to the big launch event Apple has prepared for the world to witness this Wednesday, Sept. 7. Aside from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the Cupertino giant is also expected to debut the Apple Watch 2, iOS 10 and other devices during its media event.
