Clara (Jenna Coleman) goes up against a Zygon in a sneak-peek video from "Doctor Who" Season 9, episode 8. BBC America/BBC Worldwide

The Zygons are trying to take over in “Doctor Who” Season 9. In a sneak-peek video from episode 8, Clara (Jenna Coleman) faces a Zygon who looks just like her. However, the Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) companion doesn’t seem afraid of the alien, no matter how much she tries to intimidate Clara.

Sneak Peek No. 1

The Zygon starts talking to Clara through a TV. Clara tries to change the channel. “There’s no point in turning over,” the clone says. “There’s nothing better on the other side. I could erase your mind.”

“Then why haven’t you?” Clara asks.

The clone closes her eyes and seems to be trying to evoke her powers, but nothing happens. Clara appears to be immune. “Having trouble?” Clara asks. “Let’s see what I can do.”

The school teacher closes her eyes and seems to somehow turn her clone back into her Zygon form for just a moment. Is Clara developing Zygon powers?

Sneak Peek No. 2

In a behind-the-scenes sneak-peek, executive producer Steven Moffat explains why he enjoys using the Zygons. “If you’ve got a shapeshifter, that means they can switch into the face of the brilliant actor who can then do all the remoting with a normal human face and then switch back to rubber blobiness when we want to get the terrifying action,” he explains.

Meanwhile, Ingrid Oliver (Osgood) explains that there are two versions of her character in this episode, and viewers don’t know the difference between the Zygon and the human. However, she expects some hardcore “Doctor Who” fans to figure it out. “I had to play two Osgoods and one is Zygon and one isn’t, and viewers don’t know which is which,” Oliver teases. “But keen-eyed viewers should be able to tell which is which.”
