Fox News hosted a showdown on Monday night between its biggest star, Bill O’Reilly, and the biggest star of the Republican presidential field, Donald Trump. Echoing the questions of ABC’s George Stephanopoulos from an interview with Trump the day before, O’Reilly spent the interview trying to get specifics from the real estate mogul on his bellicose ideas to handle both immigration and the economic power of China.

“The president of China is coming, a man named Xi Jinping,” O’Reilly began, sounding confused. “Do you know Xi Jinping ? I never heard of him; I don’t know who he is.”

“Very smart,” Trump interjected.

“He’s comin’ over. He’s gettin’ a big dinner free at the White House,” O’Reilly said. “If you were president, would you throw him a big dinner?”

“I would not be throwing him a dinner,” Trump said. “I’d get him a McDonald's hamburger and I’d say we gotta get down to work.”

O’Reilly appeared taken aback. Then Trump said that the Chinese president has “sucked all of our jobs,” before the host jumped in.

He hasn’t done it! U.S. companies have done it, they’re doing it! ...You would be confrontational with the Chinese, and give him a Big Mac?”

“I’d get him probably a double-sized Big Mac,” Trump said, before advocating a policy of tariffs on Chinese goods, standing by what O’Reilly described as a “trade war.”

Later in the interview, O’Reilly challenged Trump to defend his proposal of mass deportation of illegal immigrants, asking him if he was prepared to break up families whose children were American citizens.

"Bill, I don't wanna do it. I have a bigger heart than anyone running," Trump replied. "But we have a country that is totally out of control," adding that the U.S. has "no choice" but to resort to mass deportation. He has also proposed building a massive wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to keep illegal immigarants out.
