Donald Trump's big announcement Wednesday on President Barack Obama turned out to be a real self-serving snoozer. Trump offered to donate $5 million to a charity of Obama's choosing if the president would release details of his college and passport records.

“You have all been waiting -- the response has been amazing! Watch my announcement now, press release to follow at 12:15,” tweeted Trump, who has about 1.6 million Twitter followers. The billionaire real-estate mogul also released the announcement on his Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Trump had claimed that he had a “story” that could affect what has become a closely contested presidential race between Obama and GOP candidate Mitt Romney. The November race has tightened considerably after three televised presidential debates, the third and final of which was held on Monday in Florida. Romney leads Obama an average three percent in four new polls on Wednesday, the Examiner reported.

Trump announced that if Obama released his college records and application, as well as his passport records and applications -- he would make a $5 million donation to the charity of the president’s choosing. Trump has called Obama the “least transparent president in the history of this country.”

Before Trump's announcement on Wednesday afternoon, some reports had speculated it was related to the president's already reported and self-admitted past drug abuse, or perhaps an old secret divorce filing from his wife, Michelle Obama; however, Trump seemed to just again be playing the birther card.
