Verizon Wireless plans to release the new Droid RAZR in stores Friday for $299.99. The smartphone will be launched at 11:11 a.m. on Friday's date of 11-11-11 and will run on Verizon's LTE 4G network.

The company announced the date was partially choosen to commemorate the Droid's original release on the Verizon Wireless Network two years ago in November 2009. Verizon has promoted the newest addition to the Droid family in a series of national TV ads for the RAZR that have aired this week, Computerworld reported.

The Droid RAZR will be a major competitor for the Apple iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which will also be sold exclusively by Verizon this fall. The RAZR will run Honeycomb, the Android 2.3.5 OS, while the Galaxy Nexus will run the newest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich.
