Elton John was hospitalized on Wednesday, May 23, for a serious respiratory infection.

According to a report by TMZ, Elton John checked into Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles at 6 a.m. local time, before undergoing a series of tests.

Doctors reportedly ordered the Tiny Dancer singer to postpone seven days' worth of concerts, as he needs complete rest and antibiotic treatment to prevent damage.

Four concerts in total have been canceled so far due to the hospitalization.

Referring to the cancellations, John told TMZ that It feels strange not to be able to perform these 'Million Dollar Piano' concerts at the Colosseum ... I love performing the show and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts.

Elton went on to add, All I can say to the fans is [I am] sorry I can't be with you.

According to the TMZ report, Elton has since left the hospital.

Elton John's next scheduled dates kick off on June 1, in Germany.

As long as he stays healthy, John will stick to the European tour dates through July 21 and then head back to the states for an additional five performances, ending in Wheeling, West Virginia.
