A candlelight vigil took place in remembrance Elvis Presley's death, as thousands participated at his estate in Graceland near Memphis, Tenn. to honor the King who died on Aug. 16, 1977.

Fans from all over the world gathered overnight leaving flowers at Presley's grave. Many came sporting one of the King's famous looks such as his pompadour and his performing outfits.

A New York Times article reported on his 1997 death, stating that Presley was "the first and greatest American rock 'n' roll star ... whose throaty baritone and blatant sexuality redefined popular music."

While this marks the 34th anniversary of the King's passing, his memory is living on strong as ever through his music and immortal persona.
