Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) is determined to get his family back in a new promo for Season 2 of “Empire.” Fox released the 55-second video on Saturday, just a few weeks ahead of the season premiere.
In the promo, titled “Far From Grace,” Lucious is in prison, but he’s clearly trying to make the best of the situation. At one point, the music mogul is seen dancing with the other inmates and he even gets a visit from Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson). “It’s crazy how I can love you and hate you at the same moment,” Lucious tells Cookie. “I call it torture,” she responds.
Also in the video, Lucious is heard saying, “Look at how much we’ve been through. I want my family together.” While at a meeting with Andre (Trai Byers) and Mimi Whiteman (guest star Marisa Tomei), Cookie says, “Lucious is a musical genius, but he’s lost his way.”
Even though Cookie is seen visiting her ex-husband in prison, Fox released an official synopsis of the premiere episode, titled “The Devils Are Here,” teasing that Cookie, Andre, Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) and Anika (Grace Gealey) aren’t done trying to take Empire records from Lucious.
“Season 2 picks up three months after the shocking arrest and incarceration of Empire Entertainment head Lucious Lyon. Still in federal lockup, Lucious is trying to run Empire from inside, while a headline-grabbing state prosecutor hangs her political ambitions on bringing him down – no matter what it takes,” the synopsis reads. “Meanwhile, Cookie stages a star-studded #FreeLucious concert in his support, while scheming with Andre, Hakeen, Anika and the business savvy Mimi Whiteman to finalize the hostile takeover of Empire.”
Also in the show's premiere episode, Vogue's editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley and Reverend Al Sharpton pop up at Cookie's party to show their support for Lucious. Season 2 of “Empire” premieres Sept. 23 on Fox. Watch the promo below:
