Steve Harvey ended 2015 with a gaffe. The comedian made national headlines Dec. 20 when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, as the winner of the annual Miss Universe pageant — moments later he crowned the rightful winner, Miss Philippines. Less than a month later, in January 2016, Harvey went viral again. However, this time he was inspiring fans, not confusing them.

“I’m going to share something with you. I’m going to tell you something that every successful person has to do, including you," Harvey told an audience after a taping of "Family Feud," the syndicated game show which he has hosted since 2010, in a video that appeared online in mid-January. “Believe it or not, every successful person in this world has jumped."

The video was leaked online and eventually shared by Harvey Jan. 13 from his Facebook page, where it has been viewed over 51 million times.

"You cannot just exist in this life," Harvey continued. "You have got to try to live. If you are waking up thinking that there has got to be more to life than it is, man, believe that it is. Believe in your heart of hearts that it is, but to get to that life, you are going to have to jump."

Harvey says the inspirational speech, which continues for almost six minutes, was not anything out of the ordinary for the long time stand-up comic, talk show host, actor and author.

"Whenever people come see me live, before they leave I try to say something meaningful and the subject that day just happened to be about 'jumping.' I had no idea it was going to go viral. I don't know how it got out there. The show was over, so I didn't even realize anybody was rolling tape or footage," Harvey told International Business Times last week. "It was just intended for the 200 or so people in the audience. That's just a bonus I give to people who come see me live, I try to say something encouraging. The average person wants two things. They want to be happy and they want to be successful. I've been in the laugh business a long time, but after you get done laughing, what can I say that will help you?"

Harvey is currently acting as a spokesperson for Green Dot prepaid banking cards, which he claims is another way he is trying to help people.

"Working class people happen to be my favorite people," said Harvey. "They are my largest fan base. They make 'Family Feud' what it is, the talk show, the movies, the books, so I have always been a big fan of them. Anytime I can help them out, besides putting a smile on their face, then I'll do it."

Harvey did more than put a smile on the faces in the crowd of that 'Family Feud' taping, but did Steve Harvey jump?

"I jumped Oct. 8, 1985. I went to a comedy club. I won amateur night. I won 50 bucks. I had never been in a comedy club in my life. It was my first time. I went to work the next day, Oct. 9, and I quit. I won 50 bucks. I jumped. I got cut up pretty bad in the beginning, but I healed up rather nicely now."
