“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” made it clear that J.K. Rowling was only just starting this series. There were plenty of unanswered questions, and some of the most pressing ones are about Leta Lestrange. Bellatrix’s ancestor only appeared for a moment, but it was clear that she has a history with Newt. Her portrayer, Zoe Kravitz, is signed to appear in the 2018 sequel, and the actress revealed that she might be in several of the franchise’s planned five films.

The “Divergent” actress teased her role and said that Leta and Newt’s story will have plenty of screen time. “I think there’s a few ahead,” she told Collider. “The relationship between Leta and Newt Scamander is a complex relationship, so I think there will be a lot of time for that to grow and develop, which will be fun.”

Leta only appeared in a photo in the first film. Newt (Eddie Redmayne) made it clear that there was some pain there when Queenie (Alison Sudol) read his feelings. “She’s a taker. You need a giver,” Queenie says. However, Newt didn’t want to discuss his relationship with the witch.

Director David Yates has previously stated that Leta’s relationship with Newt will be explored more in “Fantastic Beasts 2.” He noted that “Newt is still absolutely in love with [Leta], so she has a kind of power over him,” he told Bustle in November.

“She’s quite complicated, a little damaged, and confused... she’s kind of a tragic figure in a way,” he continued.

Kravitz might not understand how complicated Leta is yet. She hasn’t seen a script for “Fantastic Beasts 2” yet, but she did mention that she’ll start shooting the movie this summer.

“I know nothing!” she promised. “I have an idea, based off of when I auditioned, but I know nothing. Even when I went to go do my chemistry read with Eddie, he was trying to help me piece together what was happening in the scene that we were reading. He doesn’t get to see anything either, so he was like, ‘I think based off of this line and this line, and what we shot here and here, this is what’s going on.’ We had to guess. It was funny to watch him, trying to piece it all together.”

Several other characters will also return in the sequel. Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) and more will make up the cast, but they might not be in New York again. As previously reported, the second film will take place in the U.K. and Paris.

“Fantastic Beasts 2” hits theaters Nov. 16, 2018.
