Federal officials are investigating whether Google and Apple are violating antitrust laws due to close ties between members of the companies’ boards of directors, the New York Times reported.

Google and Apple share directors Eric E. Schmidt and Arthur Levinson.

The Federal Trade Commission has informed the companies that it is looking into the matter, people briefed on the inquiry told the New York Times. They agreed to speak on condition of anonymity because the inquiry was confidential, the report states.
