'Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn'
The "Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn" beta for PS3 and PC is slated to begin this weekend. finalfantasyxiv.com

"Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn" will be available for PS3, PS4 and PC, but not for Xbox 360 or Xbox One. Why? According to an interview with Naoki Yoshida, "Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn" won't be available for either of Microsoft's gaming consoles because of their refusal to allow cross-platform play. The interview was conducted by RPGSite.

Here's what Yoshida had to say on the matter:

"The main reason from our side is that I don't want the community to be divided; to be split into two or more. For example, one player might be on the PC version, another might be on the PS4 version, and I'm playing the Xbox version - but we're not able to join the same game servers. That is just... I just don't like the idea. I disagree with it," Yoshida said. "To be frankly honest with you, there are now so many mobile devices, smart phones, everything -- why would you ever just stick to one platform from the hardware aspect? Just -- make it open to everyone? That's my opinion."'

Fascinating stuff, and Yoshida makes sensible points. Between Microsoft's Xbox One messaging and consumer relations issues, the last thing they needed was a big time game director criticizing them for having restrictive policies.

What do you think of Naoki Yoshida's comments on why "Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn" won't be coming to the Xbox 360 or Xbox One? Will you be getting "Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn?" Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below.
