Watch your back, Manchester City.

Chelsea gained ground in the standings on the third-place Citizens with a road victory over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road, thanks to two goals by Frank Lampard and an easy header from John Terry in the 20th minute.

Lampard got his first goal on a questionable penalty call in the 62nd minute. Blackpool defender Ian Evatt appeared to make contact with Soloman Kalou but the Chelsea forward looked to be going down before Evatt touched him up.

Lampard knocked in the penalty kick with ease.

Three minutes later, Chelsea scored their third and final goal. This time, Lampard slipped it past Richard Kingson off an easy penetration into the box that was assisted by Kalou.

If there was any bad news about the match, it was that Fernando Torres remains ineffective since his arrival. The Spanish striker had few chances to put a ball into the back of the net all evening.

The other bad news for Chelsea was the defensive breakdowns in the final 10 minutes.

Blackpool deserved credit for not conceding the game when by three goals. They battled back thanks to a solid effort from Jason Puncheon. The midfielder scored in the 86th minute, and had other chances to cut into Chelsea's lead.

The Seasiders had ample opportunites to increase their lead, but simply couldn't convert.

Blackpool travels to Blackburn next.

In Chelsea's next Premier League game, they host Manchester City in what should be an intense match.
