Iris and Cecile’s relationship is going to be tested in Season 4 of “The Flash.”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Candice Patton revealed that there will be some sort of tension between Iris (Patton) and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) in the new season of the CW series.

“They have their own interpersonal relationship drama that will go down this season,” Patton teased, before explaining that it doesn’t necessarily have to do with them being the two women in Joe’s (Jesse L. Martin) life.

“Iris really respects Cecile,” Patton said of her character. “I think she knows how much Cecile makes her dad happy, so in Iris’ eyes, she’s a welcome addition to the family. You’ll just have to wait and see how that whole thing between them plays out.”

Whatever the deal is between Iris and Cecile, it seems that it won’t greatly affect the latter’s romantic relationship with Joe. As a matter of fact, during a roundtable interview at San Diego Comic-Con last July, Martin said (via Comic Book Resources) that Joe and Cecile’s romance is “going to progress” next season.

After appearing in two episodes of Season 1, Cecile made a comeback in Season 3, episode 4 as a potential love interest for Joe. Soon after, the two began dating. But Joe had to end things between them when the burden of keeping Barry’s (Grant Gustin) secret proved to be a strain on their relationship. However, at Barry’s encouragement, Joe eventually told Cecile that Barry is the Flash, and the two rekindled their romance.

Although the Joe and Cecile’s relationship isn’t perfect, Martin thinks that having Cecile in Joe’s life gives his character someone he can lean on especially at times there’s so much S.T.A.R. Labs stuff going on.

“I love the idea that Joe’s got a girlfriend, so that gets explored,” Martin said. "I really, really love that, because I spent so much time just dealing with the kids and the gang over at STAR Labs. Now I have somebody at home to deal with, in a good way.”

But because executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has already confirmed that Barry and Iris’ wedding is going to happen in Season 4, it seems unlikely that Joe and Cecile will also tie the knot soon.

“The Flash” Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
