Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) said Tuesday it sold 185,146 vehicles in September, a 6 percent increase from a year ago, as consumers continue to gravitate toward the company’s Fusion sedan and Fiesta mini. Sales were also up from August, by nearly 6 percent, despite the timing of the Labor Day weekend that was expected to cause a September slump.
“We’re particularly encouraged by the strength of the Fusion and Fiesta, especially in coastal markets. The F-Series also keeps delivering, with our fifth straight month surpassing the 60,000-vehicle mark,” Ken Czubay, head of Ford U.S. sales, marketing and service, said in a statement.
Fusion deliveries leaped 62 percent year-over-year to 19,972 units, while the Fiesta saw a 28.5 percent spike to 5,043 cars. The Focus, the second-best selling Ford car, saw sales decline 15 percent amid stiff competition in the compact segment. Overall, Ford’s car division experienced a 14 percent increase in unit sales while its trucks division jumped 8 percent.
Sales of the F-Series pickup truck, Ford’s top-selling vehicle, jumped nearly 10 percent to 60,456.
Ford’s notable losers last month: The Ford Escape compact crossover, the company’s top selling SUV, was down 2.3 percent to 22,607, while the Lincoln MKX luxury crossover SUV retreated 26 percent to 1,565 units.
