Game of Thrones” is show that has become known for killing off fan’s favorite characters. The latest victim on the HBO drama, Jon Snow, appears to have died in the Season 5 finale of the show. However, fans have high hopes that the character isn’t really dead and they’ll get to see him take on the army of the dead in Season 6.

Jon Snow (Kit Harington) has been one of the most sympathetic characters on the series. He has no idea who his mother is and he swore an oath to the Night’s Watch to protect the land from whatever lies beyond the wall. His duty to protect people from the White Walkers by uniting enemies is what lead to his men turning on him in the Season 5 finale. Before his fate is revealed, here are some of his best lines that show he’s a man of honor and one of the greatest leaders in the seven kingdoms.

When He Sticks Up To The Night’s Watch For Samwell Tarly (John Bradley)

Jon: “Sam's no different from the rest of us. There was no place for him in the world, so he's come here. We're not gonna hurt him in the training yard anymore. Never again, no matter what Thorne [Owen Teale] says. He's our brother now, and we're going to protect him.”

When He Takes The Vow To Join The Night’s Watch

Jon: “Hear my words, and bear witness to my vow: night gathers and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realm of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”

When He Leaves Ygritte (Rose Leslie) To Return To The Watch

Ygritte: “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”

Jon: “I do know some things. I know I love you. I know you love me. I have to go home now.”

When He Threatened Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju)

Jon: “My father told me big men fall just as quick as little ones, if you put a sword through their hearts.”

When He Convinced The “Free Folk” To Fight Alongside The Night’s Watch

Jon: “I’m not asking you to forget your dead. I’ll never forget mine. I lost 50 brothers the night that Mance attacked the Wall. But I’m asking you to think about your children now. They’ll never have children of their own if we don’t band together. The Long Night is coming and the dead come with it. No clan can stop them. The Free Folk can’t stop them, the Night’s Watch can’t stop them and all the southern kings can’t stop them! Only together. All of us. And even then it may not be enough, but at least we give the f------ a fight.”

When He Tells Sam About His Mother

Jon: “I never met my mother. My father wouldn't even tell me her name. I don't know if she's living or dead. I don't know if she's a noblewoman or a fisherman's wife or a whore...”

When He Disses Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter)

Jon: “Have you ever been beyond the Wall, sir?”

Janos: “I commanded the City Watch of King's Landing, boy.”

Jon: “And now you're here. Must not have been very good at your job.”

When He Sticks To His Vows Of The Night’s Watch

Jon: “I'm Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. My place is here.”

Stannis (Stephen Dillane): “I'm giving you a chance to avenge your family. To take back the castle where you grew up. To rule the North.”

Jon: “I wish I could fight beside you. Believe me I do, but I swore a sacred vow the Gods would. I pledged my life to the Night's Watch.”

When He Sees Ned Stark (Sean Bean) For The Last Time

Jon: “Is my mother alive? Does she know about me, where I am, where I'm going? Does she care?”

Ned: “The next time we see each other, we'll talk about your mother. Hmmm? I promise.”

When He Gives Arya (Maisie Williams) Sword Fighting Advice

Jon: “First lesson: stick 'em with the pointy end.”

Arya: “I know which end to use.”
