George Michael and his partner Fadi Fawaz split 18 months ago and the latter was a “leech” on Michael, the Sun reported Monday, citing the deceased singer’s friends. Fawaz has given conflicting statements since Michael’s death on Christmas Day.

“Fadi was a leech from the beginning,” one of Michael’s friends told the Sun. “George realized this but I think he deliberately ignored it. He was grateful of the company. George relied on Fadi for many things. But they had been estranged for 18 months. Within hours of discovering his body, posts appeared on his Twitter account, and then within 12 hours he sold his story. Does this sound like a grieving partner?”

Fawaz initially claimed he stayed at Michael’s house in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. However, a Mirror report Sunday cited him saying he slept in his car through the night and reached Michael’s house the next day to find the singer dead in his sleep.

“I never saw him. I fell asleep in my car and I never saw him that night,” Fawaz told the Mirror. “The police know everything. That’s the most important thing.”

Fawaz is reportedly being interrogated by police over Michaal’s death.

On Sunday, a series of tweets were posted from Fawaz’s account claiming the “Last Christmas” singer made several attempts to take his own life. However, he later claimed his Twitter account was hacked.

Michael was found dead at his home on Christmas Day. His manager said the 53-year-old singer died of heart failure. On Friday, police said Michael’s autopsy results were “inconclusive,” and the cause of death is yet to be established.
