Max and Leroy’s acting chops are put to test in this week’s installment of “Ghosted.”

In a sneak peek from Season 1, episode 8 of the Fox comedy, Max (Adam Scott) and Leroy (Craig Robinson) go undercover as haunted hayride actors to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a young girl named Janie (Elizabeth Tripp). While Max is very much into his character as Michael J. Fox’s Scott Howard from the 1985 film “Teen Wolf,” Leroy — who plays a mummy at the haunted hayride — is clearly not in the mood to play around.

Young Boss (Ely Henry), who appears to be the supervisor of the haunted hayride actors, calls Leroy’s performance “weak.” But in an effort to help Leroy improve his acting chops, Young Boss generously gives him some tips.

“[What I do is] I internalize my character backstory … his murderous rage, his syphilitic madness, his unorthodox views on child marriage,” a passionate Young Boss tells Leroy.

“Look man, I don’t need a backstory,” Leroy replies, before revealing that he previously worked as a performer for seven years. “But I want to do something really big here like the viral video last week of the girl getting put out of the ride. How did you do it?”

“Was it a specter, like a spirit?” Max interjects, trying to figure out whether Janie’s disappearance is a paranormal occurrence or a mere publicity stunt.

“I don’t know about that,” Young Boss claims. “A lot of weird stuff happens around here.”

After Young Boss walks away, Leroy calls out Max for ruining his game plan. “What the hell is wrong with you?” Leroy asks Max. “He’s about to give it up and then you started talking specter crap.”

“He’s obviously hiding something, Leroy,” Max says. “There is something in those woods. [And] we are heading out there now.”

Elsewhere in the episode, according to the synopsis for the installment, Barry (Adeel Akhtar) brainstorms ways to “bro-bond” with Max and Leroy.

“Ghosted” Season 1, episode 8, aptly titled “Haunted Hayride,” airs on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 8:30 p.m. EST on Fox. Watch the sneak peek from the episode below:
