Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) and his squad of criminal lunatics, The Maniax, introduced themselves to Gotham City with a bang on "Gotham" episode 2. The Maniax are the driving force of the villains right now, and it will be up to detectives Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) to stop them.

The synopsis for episode 3, titled "The Last Laugh," revealed that the reunited duo of Gordon and Bullock will hunt down a nemesis from the past, which leads to a showdown between Gordon and Jerome. The pursuit of Jerome is personal for Gordon and Bullock, as Jerome is the one who killed their former Captain and new Police Commissioner Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara).

Last season, Bullock and Harvey arrested Jerome after he killed his mother. In the promo video for episode 3, it looks like Jerome has tracked down his father and will try to kill him too. There was also a scene where Jerome had his hands on Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) is pointing a gun in Jerome's direction in a standoff.

Gordon and Bullock are shown in pursuit of Jerome, but a strange gas could stop the two GCPD officers in their tracks. Jerome tells Detective Gordon that "no one here is getting out alive," as he starts to cackle like the Joker.

The Maniax will be busy once again, as a magic show at a Gotham Children's Hospital turns into a hostage situation. Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) are shown at the gala, but odds are Theo won't reveal that he's the one behind all of the madness and chaos that's starting to swallow the city. It will be interesting to see how he uses Barbara (Erin Richards) going forward as Gordon knows what side she's clearly on.

Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) continued his slip into insanity in episode 2 as he's starting to develop a split personality. After being too scared to ask out Ms. Kringle, Nygma saved Kringle from gunshots from the Maniax when they invaded GCPD headquarters. Will Nygma be awarded in his heroic efforts or will the alternate him start to shine through even more.
