Everybody knows Batman gets into a lot of intense fights, but it’s hard to imagine David Mazouz, the young actor playing Bruce Wayne in “Gotham,” taking on physically-taxing scenes.

In order to improve this, Mazouz is busy with krav maga training, and he even shared some of his lessons on Instagram.

In the video he posted, Mazouz punched and kicked a dummy in slow motion.

Krav maga is actually a self-defense system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and is a mixture of aikido, judo, muay thai, boxing and wrestling, along with realistic fight training.

Aside from the physical training, there’s also a different set of lessons Bruce gets from his butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee). “There’s still loads to be taught mentally, physically, emotionally, and the most important thing he needs to be taught are the rules. There’s his guidelines and figuring out what he’s going to do,” Mazouz earlier told Comic Book Resources.

All Bruce cares about at this point is finding out who killed his parents and why, so his thoughts aren’t on defending the city just yet. However, Mazouz said the time will come when he will have to step up as the Batman. “He will make the decision, and it will happen fairly soon, but it hasn’t happened yet,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pertwee told The Arts Guild that Gotham City is going to take a nosedive and force Bruce to become the Batman. “For the super villains to exist, Gotham has to reach the bottom of the barrel. So phoenix rises from the ashes. Gotham is going to get to a really bad place,” he revealed.

“Gotham” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
