Try as they want to be good, former lovers Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) are going to embrace their darker sides in “Gotham” Season 3. Fox

It feels like the once beautiful relationship of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) is damaged beyond repair, especially since Gordon killed her husband Mario Falcone (James Carpinello) in a desperate attempt to save her.

However, Lee does not see things that way. She believes Gordon is incapable of anything but destroying her life, and even plotted with Mario’s father to kill him.

Executive producer John Stephens refused to tell TV Line what the endgame would be for the two characters, but he guaranteed that their story will lead to a “rebirth.” He also teased that the two would embrace “much darker, more dangerous, almost evil versions of themselves” this season.

As for the other characters, Stephens also had a few more things to say. He shared that Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) “takes his biggest step forward yet to becoming the Dark Knight,” while his ex-girlfriend Selina Kyle will “get her whip.”

Selina is pretty mad at Bruce at the moment, but Stephens told TV Guide that they’ll find their way back to each other. “It is a teenage relationship. It is a tortured one. I think we'll see them both come together and get pushed apart again,” he explained.

“The element of the Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle relationship that we as all fans know is that they are bound together and attracted to one another, but at their core they are also both mission-driven and loners,” he added. “They push each other apart constantly. That dynamic we will watch again over the course of the season because they are drawn together, but they also can't be together.”

“Gotham” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
