There are so many possible transformations for Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) in “Gotham” Season 4. FOX

“Gotham” led fans to believe that well-loved villain Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) would transition as Harley Quinn during the Season 3 finale. When that did not happen, fans had to know - what’s next in Babs’ transition?

Showrunner Danny Cannon said they have something special planned for Babs, but as to her becoming Harley, he teased: “Never say never on this show, I’ll definitely say.”

“I just think the transformation she’s gone through and the evil alliance she has with somebody can lead many different places,” he told Bustle. “We were obsessed with this idea of the Sirens and girl power... We didn’t steer away from [the transformation] completely. It’s on ice.”

Meanwhile, Richards is excited for her character to begin training with Ra's al Ghul (Alexander Siddig), who will eventually go head to head with Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). It is because of Ra’s al Ghul that Babs gets resurrected via the Lazarus Pit, and she will undergo another transformation this Season 4.

“I get trained while I’m going through my dead back to life period by Ra’s to be like a martial arts expert,” said Richards. “It’s been so interesting, and I feel like she has so much potential, as in she could end anywhere. She could go back to good, she could go back to bad. I think the great thing about a character like Barbara is that we actually don’t know the end of her.”

This time around, Barbara won’t have the “crazed energy” that she flaunted in the past. What’s surprising is that she will even be teaming up with Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) and Selina Kyle (Carmen Bicondova). “She’s going to form an alliance with Tabitha and Selina,” Richards told Comic Book. “We’re gonna have a bit of a female power base in Gotham which we’re really excited about.”

As to what will empower the new trio, Lucas said it’s going to take form in a business venture. “I will say that the girls are starting a new business,” Lucas told Fansided. “Their new business will allow them to interact with all of the different scenes of Gotham. I would see them reacting with a lot of the villains.”

“Gotham” Season 4 airs every Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
