“The Breakdown” is up for a big award in this week’s episode of “Great News.”

According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 4 of the NBC series, MMN’s news program “The Breakdown” has been nominated for an American Journalism Award. Katie (Briga Heelan) is looking forward to spending the night with the reporters she has admired her whole life. But fearing her mom Carol (Andrea Martin) will ruin it, Katie tries to stop her from attending.

In a sneak peek from the episode, Katie tells Greg (Adam Campbell) about her concerns. “I’m nervous about the awards,” Katie admits to her supervisor. “Every time I’m up for some kind of recognition my mom has a way of making it all about her. … This awards [night] is really important to me. I’m gonna be in the same room as all of my idols. I just don’t want to spend the whole night worrying about if she’s gonna make a scene. Is that crazy?”

“What’s crazy is you’re even asking,” Greg replies. “Of course, she will. But you’ve got an easy excuse. Interns aren’t invited.”

When Katie reveals that she has already invited Carol as her plus one, Greg says that he’s nothing he can do about it. “Katie, just tell her she can’t come,” he says.

Apparently, Katie’s plan fails as Carol secures a position as a seat-filler. Katie is then stuck babysitting her mom all night but gets distracted by Jeremy (Reid Scott), a handsome New York Times reporter who looks down on cable news.

As previously reported by Entertainment Weekly, Katie and Jeremy have a history together. The two has reportedly formed a connection with each other while covering a dangerous story together.

While Jeremy’s introduction is expected to threaten the will-they-won’t-they relationship between Katie and Greg, series creator Tracey Wigfield said that Katie and Greg shippers have nothing to worry about. “The Katie-Greg stuff is definitely in the background,” said Wigfield. “Hopefully it will come to a head in some exciting way towards the later part of the season.”

Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, Chuck (John Michael Higgins) is excited to reunite with all of his old anchormen friends, especially Len Archer (Christopher McDonald), an idol of Chuck's who is receiving a lifetime achievement award.

“Great News” Season 2, episode 4, titled “Award Show,” airs on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on NBC.
