Chuck learns that Portia and Carvell are having some relationship problems in this week’s episode of “Great News.”

In a sneak peek from Season 2, episode 6 of the NBC series, Chuck (John Michael Higgins) finds out that Portia (Nicole Richie) and Carvell (Rashad Jennings) are not yet married despite being together for a very long time.

“We’re actually not married. We’ve just been engaged for five years,” Carvell tells Chuck.

“Five years?” a shocked Chuck asks. “That’s how long it took me to get engaged, married, divorce, and acquitted of attempted vehicular manslaughter.”

“Honestly, I don’t see us getting married anytime soon,” Carvell admits. “You know what it’s like when you win some for a long time you get comfortable, you lose a spark.”

In an attempt to bring the spark back to Portia and Carvell’s relationship, Chuck introduces his marital therapy videotapes to his “The Breakdown” co-anchor.

“In the early ‘90s, I produced a series of marital therapy videotapes,” Chuck tells Portia in another sneak peek from the episode. “I never mentioned it because I don’t like to brag, and legally, I’m not supposed to due to complaints by a certain co-star who didn’t know we were releasing them. But I think these might be the answer to your relationship problems with Carvell.”

Chuck plays one of the VHS tape, and in it, Chuck teaches viewers how to properly kiss someone on the lips. “Kathy Ireland once told me I was the world’s greatest kisser and now I’m gonna pass that technique on to you,” Chuck says in the video. “Step one: You’re gonna want a wet mouth. Try thinking about steak.”

Disgusted by what she has just seen, Portia turns off the VHS player and reveals that she’s actually the one who doesn’t want to marry Carvell. “Carvell’s not the one not interested in me,” Portia says. “I’m the one who doesn’t want to marry him. I’ve never admitted that before but it’s true. The passion is gone. We only have sex like three times a day.”

Elsewhere in the episode, according to the synopsis for hour, Jeremy (Reid Scott) invites Katie (Briga Heelan) to do some “real reporting” and go on a stakeout with him. Suspicious of Jeremy’s real motive, Carol (Andrea Martin) kidnaps Greg (Adam Campbell) to join her stake out the stakeout. The two then discover that it may not be all business between Katie and Jeremy.

“Great News” Season 2, episode 6, titled “Pool Show,” airs on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on NBC.
