“Grey’s Anatomy” always goes out with a bang, and Season 13 certainly changed a lot for the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial. Fans will want to remember where the ABC drama left off before watching Thursday’s Season 14 premiere.

After an explosion, Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton) and a little girl, Erin (Darby Camp), were trapped in the wing of the hospital that was on fire. The staff noticed Edwards was missing and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) ordered Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk) to tell the cops about her disappearance. The new doc, however, is too busy reminding everyone about protocol and ends up forgetting to report the resident’s disappearance.

Ben (Jason George) was the last to see Stephanie. He knows that he can lead the firefighters to where Edwards was last seen. He throws on a firefighter’s jacket and heads into the burning building, much to his wife’s dismay.

Stephanie has been through a lot. Erin’s legs were severely injured in the blast, and the resident basically had to walk through fire to get her safely to the rooftop. Ben and the firefighters find Stephanie taking care of Erin on the roof and bring them down to safety. Adrenaline keeps Steph going for a little while, but she eventually collapses after it looks like Erin is going to be O.K.

In the chaos of trying to evacuate patients, the hospital is a mess. Jackson (Jesse Williams) went into the fire to find Stephanie and is missing for a while. April (Sarah Drew) and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) both admonish him for having no regard for his own life when he comes out.

Maggie apologizes to April for overstepping. She shouldn’t have been yelling at Jackson. April says it’s O.K., and it’s fine that Maggie and Jackson clearly both have feelings for each other.

Later, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Minnick and Webber meet with Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen). Stephanie wasn’t supposed to be working though. Minnick wanted her in counseling, but Webber cleared her for surgery. Bailey knows that Erin wouldn’t have been saved if Stephanie wasn’t there, though. She fires Minnick.

Stephanie is leaving the hospital too. She has severe burns and is going to be in intensive care for a while, but after this, she wants to live her life. She needs to be outside of a hospital for a while, so she quits.

While the hospital was under lockdown, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) went to identify Megan (Abigail Spencer) at a medical center. Meredith is informed that Megan is alive, but Riggs (Martin Henderson) is a bit occupied with work. He has a patient’s chest open while the fire is burning just a floor above him. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) helps him finish the surgery and after he gets some oxygen, she reveals the big news.

After it sinks in that his wife is alive, Riggs pulls Meredith in for a celebratory hug. He immediately apologizes, but Mer says he shouldn’t. If it were Derek, she’d already be on the road.

In the two-hour Season 14 premiere, “Grey’s Anatomy” will pick up shortly after the finale. The hospital will be in rough shape after the fire, so Baily will be going into interior decorator mode. The other doctors will be giving Megan the VIP treatment while she recovers. Elsewhere, Jo (Camilla Luddington) will make an important decision regarding Alex (Justin Chambers).
