Has the romance on “Grey’s Anatomy” officially fizzled out? That’s what it seemed like when Shonda Rhimes, mastermind behind the captivating medical drama, revealed during the 2015 Television Critics Association summer press tour that viewers should anticipate another break up to occur in Season 12 of the ABC series.

According to the showrunner, April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) will be parting ways in the latest installment of "Grey’s Anatomy." But just because the new season will kick off with some heartache doesn’t mean audiences shouldn’t count out all romances!

Rhimes divulged that there will “definitely [be] some new romances” for both Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) woven throughout the plot of Season 12. Does that mean the former lovers won’t be rekindling their relationship in the fall?

In June, TVLine revealed that Capshaw’s contract, which ended in May, was extended for another three seasons. This left Calzona shippers questioning if the doctors would be getting back together following their surprising Season 11 separation. However, Capshaw revealed to Entertainment Weekly in March that she was hoping her and Ramirez’s character wouldn’t jump back into their rocky relationship so quickly.

“Only because they had to go through so much to make that decision to be apart, it’s so hard to think about them being together. They’re just getting to the point where that’s all good. I would feel bad if they then took steps backwards and ended up in a relationship that was super challenging,” she said, adding that she understands why fans are so devoted to the two as a couple. “Everyone longs for the beginning, I get that, you want them to go back to the beginning, but you can’t do that with anything in life.”

During the TCA panel, Rhimes also teased that the mysterious new Season 12 romances will be “pretty exciting” ones, too! (Um, is it fall yet?)

Who do you think will be locking lips in Season 12 of “Grey’s Anatomy”? Make sure to tune in when the medical drama returns to ABC on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. EDT.
