Looks like Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) won’t be the only one forced to start over again in Season 12 of “Grey’s Anatomy.” According to reports, April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) will both embark on new solo, journeys when their relationship flat lines in the upcoming installment of the medical drama.

Showrunner Shonda Rhimes confirmed the heartbreaking news during the 2015 Television Critics Association summer press tour, revealing that the doctors will go their separate ways following the trauma surgeon’s decision to continue her work overseas. In the Season 11 finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Jackson left his wife with an ultimatum – one that stated he wouldn’t be waiting around again if she decided to continue her military work in Jordan.

“If I go, then we’re done? You’re calling it?” she questioned her husband, nearly in tears.

But before fans could learn that fate of Japril, the finale concluded. This left fans wondering whether or not the duo, who got married in Season 10, would remained together. While the couple's future lookd grim, Drew urged shippers in May to remain hopeful.

“We haven’t actually broken up. We’re left on the precipice. He’s given me an ultimatum that gives us room to figure out what’s going to happen next season,” she told Entertainment Weekly, adding that she think April and Jackson haven’t officially ended their romance. “I see it as they’re definitely in a really, really rough situation. I don’t think that it’s the nail on the coffin for them. He says if you go, we’re done, but April still has to make a choice, so that’s where – I guess – we’ll pick up next season, but [showrunner Shonda Rhimes] could make a different choice. ”

And it looks like she has. When “Grey’s Anatomy” picks back up for its twelfth season fans will see how April and Jackson are faring since April decided to pack up and head to the middle east. According to TVLine, the premiere episode, titled “Sledgehammer,” will have a three month time jump, meaning audiences may bypass the actual break up and get a first-hand look on how the couple is coping from the split.

“Grey’s Anatomy” will air its Season 12 premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
